Deze meeslepende miniserie, verteld door de welsprekende stem van Dinah, onthult de tradities en de onrust van het vrouw zijn. Het verhaal van Dina begint met het verhaal van haar moeders: Lea, Rachel, Zilpa en Bilha, de vier vrouwen van Jakob. Ze houden van Dinah en geven haar geschenken die haar zullen ondersteunen tijdens haar jeugd, een roeping tot verloskundige en een nieuw huis in een vreemd land. Dinah vertelt ons over de wereld van de rode tent, de plaats waar vrouwen werden opgesloten tijdens hun cycli van geboorte, menstruatie en ziekte; van haar initiaties in de religieuze en seksuele praktijken van haar stam; van Jacobs verkering met zijn vier vrouwen; van het mysterie en het wonder van karavanen, boeren, herders en slaven; van liefde en dood in de stad Sichem; van de opkomst van haar halfbroer Jozef in Egypte, en natuurlijk haar huwelijk met Sichem en de bloedige gevolgen ervan.
