Yukito Kunisaki er på en rejse i søgen efter den Winged Maiden, der var bundet til himlen århundreder siden, efter at have hørt en gammel barndom fortælling fra sin mor. Som Yukito viser sin dukketeater til folk i et forsøg på at tjene nogle penge, han befinder sig i en lille by, hvor han ikke forvente at blive meget lang. Men da han møder en usædvanlig pige ved navn Misuzu, tingene tager en drastisk drejning, da han inviteret til at bo hos hende. Ved ophold i den maleriske by, Yukito snart bliver venner med de lokale. Da han får at vide dem bedre, han lærer af deres problemer og beslutter at hjælpe, at sætte sin søgen efter den Winged Maiden på hold. Med sin søgen på hold, og hans voksende tilknytning til Misuzu og den lille by, vil Yukito nogensinde finde den Winged Maiden, eller er hun tættere end han troede?
