Die Karrierefrau und Mutter Abby O’Brien (Megan Ory) kehrt nach Jahren erstmals wieder in ihre alte Heimatstadt zurück. Dabei wird sie zum ersten Mal seit Ewigkeiten wieder mit ihrer Jugendliebe konfrontiert, dem Musiker Trace Riley (Jesse Metcalfe), den sie damals Hals über Kopf verlassen hatte. Ebenfalls noch in Chesapeake Shores leben ihr emotional abgeschotteter Vater Mick (Treat Williams), ihre aufmüpfige Schwester Jess (Laci Mailey) und ihre geliebte Großmutter Nell (Diane Ladd). Außerdem gibt es ein Wiedersehen mit Abbys Mutter Megan (Barbara Niven), die ihren Mann vor Jahren verlassen hatte und ihn dabei alleinerziehend zurückließ. Da er sich in die Arbeit stürzte, haben seine Töchter kein gutes Verhältnis zu ihm.
