Babası Edgar Linton’ın arazi sınırını geçmemesine dair verdiği uyarıya uymayan Catherine yakışıklı ama hasta kuzeni ile Hareton’ın Heatcliff’in oğulları olduğunu öğrenir. Bu Heatcliff’in Cathy’nin en iyi dostu olarak babas Earnshaw tarafından yetiştirildiğini göstermektedir. Ölümünden sonra, oğlu ve mirasçısı yatılı okuldan dönüp evlenmiş ve Heatcliff’i seyis yapmıştır. Şık beyefendi Edgar Linton ile tesadüf eseri tanışınca ona aşık olur. Bunun üzerine Heatcliff oradan ayrılır. Üç yıl sonra Heatcliff Kathy’nin Edgar’la evlendiği günün ertesi günü zengin biri olarak geri döner. Heatcliff intikam alır ama bu tatminden çok üzüntüye neden olur. Kathy ve Edgar’ın ölümünden sonra Heatcliff’in nefreti sonraki nesillere de aktarılır.
